Swarnalatha ( March 10, 1928 – March 10, 1997) was a South Indian film playback singer. From 1945 onwards, she rendered over 5000 songs in the span of twenty years in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malyalam & Hindi.

Swarnalatha born in chagalamarri village at Kurnool Dist. in 1928 March 10 to Mr. Rama Subanna & Galli Subhamma they named her as Mahalaxmi, she had a great passion towards music, her father subanna has recognised her talent and encouraged her to learn classical music from Mr. Fidel Subanna for eight years and later under excellent guidance of Mr. Shastry she learnt dancing simultaneously studied SSLC from produttur.

She was one of the most versatile singer of her times, she started her career as a playback singer for a comedy song and got very good admiration from the audience and music directors.

She has recieved several awards for her stage acting on Music Oriented Mythological stories like Sri Krishna Tulabharam, Tara Shashankam, Chintamani, Sri Krishna Rayabharam, Sri Krishna Tulabharam etc., under the guidance of Mr. Jamal on her 12th year she has performed a musical concert in front of H.Highness Shri. Kolhapuri Raja her voice made every one into spell bound that in turn awarded with a gold medal. It was the begining later she had performed with the great music personality Kasturi Siva Ramaiah recieved many more appreciations from everyone.

In those days it was an honour to be heard from radio Mrs. Swarnalatha has started her career as a radio play back singer which in turn made Mr. N. Mallikeshwara shetty the owner of Andhra Jyoti newspaper introduced her to HMV Company for audition. Master Venu a famous music director has recognised her talent of moulding her voice according to the situation of the songs as witty, slang, arrogance and melody it is not so simple to sing and get appreciation from the audience it could only be possible by Mrs. Swarnalatha.

She got married in 1956 with Dr. Amarnath and blessed with 9 children 6 sons and 3 daughters they were all well settled.

In 1979 she has converted to christianity and minimised her singing career, there after she has started singing for christian & Private albums and done several musical concerts.

In 1997 after returning from America from a musical concert on the way to her native place she has attacked by burglars and has been hospitalised and took her last breath on 10th March 1997.
